C programming language is taught in the first year of the majority of computer science engineering courses. The first year students in the engineering colleges are taught 'learning c for beginners' and even a practical exam is conducted for all the course students in the first year.

From the second year onwards, only specialized students can learn the advanced version of the C programming language. The C language forms the basic programming language from where all high level languages can be learnt easily. This programming language forms the basics of programming. Most of the Indian students especially in south India follow this book as this is the recommended text book in the syllabus of study in the colleges affiliated to Anna University.

There are many other books in the C programming language but the theory part of the programming language is well explained in the C programming book written by E. Bala Gurusamy. There are also computer course centers offering courses on the C programming language. These computer centers charge the students a particular fee to join the course. The tutors in the computer centers will teach the students the particular course.

Alternatively the computer centers establish a tie up with the colleges and come to the college to give training to the students after the college hours. In this case, the fee charged will be on the lower side when compared to the students going individually to the computer centers. There are certain computer centers like CSC which give huge discounts to the students on attending the exam conducted by them. The CSC center also considers the marks of the students and offers discounts to the student on the computer courses offered.
